'Where?' asked Cecile.
"Gabrielle grabbed Cecile’s hand and broke into a run, almost dragging her along through the mud; past tent after tent; past machine gun wagon dogs who barked at them; past rows of cannons and a group of sentries obviously surprised to see two young women sprinting into their midst. Maurice stood with a small group of young soldiers, all wearing their dark blue uniforms and caps while they listened intently to an officer."
